Finances and Fundraising

URGENT!  Bookkeeper - Maintain our G/L. We use QuickBooks online. Most of the work can be done offsite. Also help prepare quarterly and year-end reports. Bookkeeping experience is required.  Estimated commitment is about 4-5 hours per month and about 15 hours to close the year's books (Feb/March).

Politics and Legislation

We work to elect environmentally sound government representatives and maintain ongoing dialogs with them. One way to do this is by making Sierra Club candidate endorsements. We offer written and often verbal testimony at legislative hearings.

URGENT! Help in the NH, one of the most important swing states in the USA - We need Sierra Club members like you to help us succeed in electing an environmental candidate to the White House. Although the likely outcome in Massachusetts is widely known, attention is being drawn by New Hampshire.  Please get involved in NH by either traveling there or by joining local phone banks. In either case, contact us and we'll match you up with an activity that meets your schedule.

Help Elect Endorsed Candidates in Massachusetts - Join us as we work in the campaigns for a handful of "priority" races. There are lots of openings - and they desperately need your help!
Endorsements - Participate in the Sierra Club's ongoing political endorsement process, research candidates' records, work on campaigns. Help elect environmental candidates in your community! The Chapter Political Committee has three openings - and they welcome members in all parts of the state. The committee meets by conference call as well as live.
Legislative Action - One of the most powerful tools that the chapter has in affecting environmental protections. We sponsor and support many environmental bills, and this committee covers all the aspects of legislation: testifying at hearings, lobbying and making calls to legislators, and contacting the press about important legislative issues.
Help Write Testimony - The chapter supports many bills  and we need help writing testimony. These reports are typically 2-3 pages and usually include a chart or graph - and are footnoted. If you enjoy the aspects of research and writing reports, this is a great opportunity!

Conservation

Conservation is at the heart of the Sierra Club. Our group works to promote alternative energy, preserve local forests and open space, to protect the quality of our air, to protect our rivers and coastal areas, and to encourage smart growth and public transportation options. We also track state and national conservation priorities. We meet to identify and prioritize conservation issues and to develop strategies for success. Your help is greatly appreciated in the following areas:

Work with our Energy Committee, attend conservation meetings, work on strategy and tactics to decrease consumption, develop alternative energy, combat the production of greenhouse gasses, and work on global warming.
Track specific local conservation issues of interest to you (list below)

Communications, Outreach, Technical

Event Planning - Help us plan and carry our chapter events: including membership events, an annual meeting, etc. We need planners and helpers!
Table at Events: Help staff the Sierra Club table at events! Meet other volunteers, hand out literature.

Outings

Help with our Inner City Outings program, which brings the wilderness experience to urban youth. Assistance is always needed and appreciated! Volunteers accompany the hikes, interacting with the kids and supporting the leader. No prior experience is necessary, just a desire to help out and have fun!
